  FEMALE NEGRO TOBACCO JAR. £SOLD  

The Male version of this tobacco jar appears far more oftern. Probably produced in Bavaria, Germany in a soft earthenware, almost terracotta body. The red body is glazed in a low temperature black glaze. It depicts the head of a black African woman. So oftern associated with the tobacco plantations they are oftern used in advertising and smoking related items.Date 1870s .
Height 5 1/2 inch 14 cm, length 6 1/2 16.5 cm.
Condition good. Chips to underside of lid do not appear on the outside. rubbing were the lid fits the base The shape means it can only fit in one place.
