ELLEN MASSEY 1866. EARITH BRITISH SCHOOL £265
.Ellen Massey's story is one that could be told of so many young girls of the 19th century.
Born in the small village of Bluntisham cum Earith near Cambridge in 1856 the daughter of George & Rebecca , Agricultural laborious, she attended her local British School, run by the Church of England (the building still stands although now a private business). Aged about 14 she probably replied to an advert in the paper and headed off to Paddington in London to become a housemaid to Joseph Dell a Corn Dealer. In 1881 aged 25 she gave birth to the first of 6 children and was married to John Henry Wild , a Coachman & Domestic servant from Altrincham Cheshire, where they lived to old age.
