We are pleased to be able to add this sampler to the small group known from this School later renamed as an Asylum.
Founded in the beging of the 18th Century with the support of the City of London Livery companies, the Society was to clothe and educate 12 local boys from familys in need, this was extended to 30 boys and 30 girls at the time this sampler was worked.
In 1846 with Royal patronage and incorperated by an Act of Parliament it became THe Royal Asylum of St.Ann's Society. Its location a large building in Brixton Hill in Surrey South London.
