WORCESTER PLATE by PO-HING

£SOLD

  WORCESTER PLATE by PO-HING £SOLD
A rare and interesting late 19th Century Worcester plate decorated in the over glaze enamels in the Cantonese style attributed to the artist recorded as Po-Hing. Worcester record his probable name Po-Hing as a Cantonese painter who painted at the Royal Worcester factory from the 1870s, his work was for many years wrongly believed to have been painted in China on Worcester blanks but it is now known he was employed as a painter by Mr Binns as a principal artist.

In many ways from the front one would believe this to be a Canton Porcelain plate, and his name recorded at Worcester make him more important as few Canton painters are known.

Another plate with a Cantonese subject by Po-Hing ill Colour Plate V.Royal Worcester Porcelain by Henry Sandon.

Impressed Worcester mark with the body name Vitreous below. Worcester c. 1870-80.

9 inch 23 cm dinner plate.

Condition minor factory chip glazed and gilded at 7 o\'clock with minor fretting possibly from a plate stand on the bottom edge
