An exceptional early 19th century water colour of a young boy holding his favourite toy an Ark.
Retaining its original frame with gilded black glass mount.
The back inscribed Robert Riddell ? born 29th May 1797. At the bottom more inscription Painted by Christian Riddell who was the pupil of Mr Some Drawing master_ taken from life. RR Could write when very young.
Robert Riddell was born on 29 May 1797. He was the son of Henry Riddell and Anne Dougalstoun. He married Susan Law, daughter of James Law of Elvingstoun, on 23 December 1834. He died on 18 April 1862 at age 64.
