AMERICAN DECOY MALARD DUCK

£98

  AMERICAN DECOY MALARD DUCK £98
An interesting carved and turned wood decoy duck, a Mallard Drake probably from the early 20th Century. One of a number that would have been used as a "raft" behind a shooting boat to attract other ducks. The body roughly turned on a lathe giving the texture of feathers, the head carved and fixed. Original glass eyes. The base with old weights and hook has an impressed name VICTOR upon it.
Great original condition .old paint worn.

Length from head to tail 16 1/2 inches 42 cm.

It was made by the Victor decoy company in Lititz, Pennsylvania USA in or around the 1930's... The decoys were machine made and that's why there are ridges about the body--milling lines....
