A rare and interesting piece of calligraphy, a hand written verse titled A NEGRO'S HOPE.
O poor negro she will go, some one day, Over the water and move far away, Over the mountains big & high, Some one day. To that country in the sky Far away; Jesus Mussa bring me home Some one day; Then ill live with the Holy One Far away; Sin no more my hurt make sure Some one day; And I praise my Jesus ever more Far away.
Probably from an album, I would think first half of the 19th Century.
framed in a Victorian gilt frame measuring 7 1/3 x 9 3/4 inches 18.6 x 24.5 cm.
