These wonderful Tudor Green glaze money boxes are well recorded, although one wonders who in the 16th Century could save money !
They have been found in large numbers at historical sites including Theatre\'s like The Globe as well cock pits and the backs of public houses were entertainment took place. They were in fact used as box\'s for the entrance receipts at the gate, and taken into the \"box office\" to be broken open .
Extensively restored, only the top & bottom appear original as most of these are made up from fragments. |
