ELIZABETH ARNOLD 1832 Mrs Hands School PUDDLETOWN

£850

ELIZABETH ARNOLD 1832 Mrs Hands School PUDDLETOWN £850
A rare and interesting School work sampler worked by Elizabeth Arnold at Mrs Hands School Pifddletown. Depicting at the top two large turkey like birds either side of a central silk tied bouquet of flowers. More flowers and fruit fill the sampler until the base where we have the most wonderful pair of Lion Dogs with small birds perched on there backs.

The central panel reads ELIZABETH ARNOLD Finished this work May the 31 1832 Aged 10 years at Mrs Hands School Piddletown. Now Puddletown in Dorset. We have found no reference to this School, so probably Mrs Hands was a private governess or Teacher. Elizabeth was Baptised 6.8.1826. Her Mother also Elizabeth, Father Thomas was a Shoe maker. It would appear she married Georg Elsworth Hammond on 13.5.1850.

Retaining its original cross grained veneer frame measuring 17 x 22 1/4 inches.

Condition frame has a few nocks in the corners. The sampler has some age related browning and a couple of small holes, ( The largest in front of the right hand dog).
