A rare 19th century Ridgway & Abington pottery relief moulded jug depicting a scene of Slave Selling with an Auctioneer on a Rostrum to which is attached a notice inscribed 'By Auction This Day. A Prime Lot of Healthy Negroes'. The reverse with a scene of the Escape of Eliza from Uncle Tom's Cabin. The handle surmounted by a Negro Boy praying. Impressed to base Ridgway & Abington, Hanley, January 1st 1853. (6.25 inches).
