  ARCTIC SCENERY PLATE, c.1830 in grey-green £SOLD  
This rare series represent episodes in the travels of the explorer Sir Edward William Parry in his efforts to discover the north-west passage around the top of Canada. The images used taken from books describing the journeys.
In this example the main scene is from an engraving by W. Westall R.A. from a sketch made by Lieutenant Beechey published in the " Journal of a voyage for the Discovery of a North West Passage to the Pacific in His Majesty's ships Hecla & Griper 1921. Showing the ships trapped in ice.
The eskimos in the foreground as based on drawings by Capt. G.F.Lyon on Melville Peninsular in 1822 and published in 1824.
