A wonderful late 18th century slipware barrel, with incised decoration to both sides in the form of hearts.
To me the deep colour of the damage area show this occurred a long time ago possibly when still in us, and now has the feel of an early piece of oak .
A comparison , although slightly different shape can be made on colour with the 1774 dated example in the Weldon collection. No. Weldon 549
