UNUSUAL 18th Century DELFT TILE

£SOLD

UNUSUAL 18th Century DELFT TILE £SOLD
A very interesting and rare 18th Century tile depicting a windmill on a shore with a weeping willow tree and boat on the water. I don't think I have seen this before, the symbolism of this tile is very interesting, the obvious weeping willow, usually and commonly associated with memorials and death and with a boat that represents the journey to the after life. The Windmill and its association with Bread can represent Christ.

13.5 cm square

Condition good typical minor nibbles, no cracks or restoration.
