A remarkable little water colour of a young girl Sarah Ann Parkinson 19th June 1856, from an album of drawings by Henry Mounsey ( 1853-1932). The eldest child of Jasper Capper Mounsey an Iron Merchant from Durham Tyne & wear although was living in Jesmond at the time this was painted. Later the family moved south to Swanscome in Kent where Henry worked as a Merchants Clark.
It is rare to know the painter and sitter in this case Sarah Ann Parkinson born Apr.1850 in Otley The eldest daughter of William & Mary Parkinson, a Paper Maker. She Married Joseph Burnell on 6.11.1869 a mechanic also from Otley. They had five children. She died Nov.1920 at the age of 70 from pneumonia brought about following an accident with a pig. She had been shaking a rug in the yard when she was knocked to the ground by the pig, fracturing her thigh .
