£SOLD |
Bilbouquet, Cup-and-ball or ball in a cu, or ring and pin is a traditional children's toy, originating probably in Medieval times and played throughout the world under its different names. It is generally a wooden handle, to which a small ball is attached by a string, and which has a cup and a spike, upon which the player tries to catch the ball. Was historically popular in France and used as a tool to improve the dexterity of children and a toy in court. Popular in England during the early 19th century, Jane Austen is reputed to have excelled while entertaining her brother's son in a game called Bilbo Catche.
