  SUNDERLAND MUG for THOMAS MEEK 1826 £SOLD  
A SUNDERLAND CREAMWARE MUG ATTRIBUTED TO PHILLIPS' NORTH HYLTON POTTERY, DATED 1826 with red and overglaze painted stylised floral decoration and inscribed in black Thomas Meek son of Michael & Mary Meek born Octr 25 1826, 10cm.
Comparative literature: Baker (J C) compiler, Sunderland Pottery 1984, p46 and plate VI p19.
Thomas Meek was baptised at Gateshead on July 29 1827. He was the son of Michael Meek of Wickham, County Durham (1789-1872) and his wife Mary Meek of Heworth, County Durham (1803-1883). In the census their occupations were described as colliery waggon man and laundress.
