Scattered through museum and private collections are a group of 17th and early 18th century Band samplers stitched by pupils of Judith Hayle and her daughter Rebecca Thomson. Thes are regarded as one of the =most important groups of school room samplers being the earliest attributed to one teacher.. This book attempts to piece together the lives , experiences and background of these girl sampler-makers and their teacher.

this is both an insight to the girls themselves, there samplers as well as life in late 17th century Ipswich a small rural based English Town.

91 pages lots of pictures, and a good read. We recomend it to both sampler collectors and historians alike
