SET OF EXCEPTIONAL BAND SAMPLERS £.
Set of band samplers from the Penrose House collection of needlework, The coloured band sampler has John Penrose (1647-1696) initials in the centre combined JPR he married Constance Bawden in 1671 setting up home in Redruth Cornwall. The long whitework sampler with Sibmacher’s Unicorn, is signed with the initials SB, this probably entered the collection through Constance family, her parents were John Bauden and Constance Bosowe, a possible contender would be Susan Bossowe, from 1620 although a little early for the sampler. Now the Bossow’s are an interesting family having emigrated from Seville ,Italy in the 16th century to work in the Tin Mining Industry in Redruth. They are all very fine and in wonderful condition having been well stored from possibly the 18th century
