The Polka came over from France in the spring of 1844, and took London by storm, Everybody polka'd , Even The Queen and Prince Albert, who had the tune played at two state dinners in Windsor. It was all very naughty and exciting, with to quote "the opportunities of showing care and attention to your partner", and the certainty of seeing a flash of provocative ankle as she twirled around. The Dancers depicted are Jules Peerrot & Carlotta Grisi.
