  V.RARE VERWOOD WASSELL BOWL, 18th Century. £sold
Wassail is a beverage made from hot mulled cider and spices, drunk traditionally as an integral part of wassailing, a Yuletide drinking ritual when groups of revellers would travel from house to house wishing happiness, health and well-being to their neighbours. Popular from Medieval times to the late 17th century, although as recorded on a 1832/3 dated pot from clay Pitts Ewenny was still popular in Wales.
P. Copeland-Griffiths records that only two are known from Verwood (one with 12 the other with 8 handles, this had 10 ) and dates them to the 18th century.
14cm High x 22.5 Wide. lacking two handles.
From the extensive green splashes in the glaze and ware this could well be earlier, c.1700.
