CAROLINE SALLY CHICHESTER FRAY 1819 OAKHAMPTON DEVON

CAROLINE SALLY CHICHESTER FRAY 1819 OAKHAMPTON DEVON £SOLD
I love the words on this band sampler by the wonderfully named CAROLINE SALLY CHICHESTER FRAY in 1819.....
Without a friend the world is but a wilderness. A man may have a thousand intimate acquittance and not a friend amongst them.
Sally worked her sampler under the tutorial of her aunt Lucretia Fray. It must be said she had but a short life. Born 4.9.1809 to John Fray (who died when she was 3 in 1812),and Ann nee Pedler. In Oakehampton Cornwall. Her mother re married, her two brothers also died before her own demise aged 12 the year after she worked her sampler. She is now remembered for her school needlework.
