CORONATION GEORGE IV 1821 RHEUBEN JOHNSON.

£SOLD

CORONATION GEORGE IV 1821 RHEUBEN JOHNSON. £SOLD
An interesting transfer printed jug. Produced to commemorate the coronation of George IV July 1821.
The sides printed with a crown sided with rose and thistle with shamrocks below. The front with a portrait of the King. All printed in blue with overglaze enamels.
The base with printed mark for RJOHNSON Semi China Hanley. This would be for Rheuben Johnson of Mill Bank Hanley, potting 1817-23, although the pottery continued by his widow Phoebe and their son to 1838.
I feel, I have seen both the Kings image & the Crown on children's ware and the style of decoration may help identify other pieces.
cf. John & Jenifer May Commemorative Pottery pl.66.
