  WAR & PEACE, LIVERPOOL, circa 1800. £SOLD
THE BLESSING of PEACE & THE MISERIES OF WAR. Liverpool circa 1800.
I love the imagery on 18th century printed creamware. I'm not convinced by the "story" on this Jug. Children reading out side a thatch cottage clearly they did not live there, while the rural farm workers dance and drink in the harvest (I think not), is the image of Peace, with that of war showing crops ruined, houses and The three Wheat Sheaths pub, burned, and what looks like a peaceful death in the arms of an older woman!. There is no battle scene, only a broken gun. so what is the war is it the battle with the Ale served from the jug ! There are probably other interpretations of the imagery no doubt.
Height 19 cm;
Condition hairline crack down one side of spout, overall even staining.
