ELIZABETH DAGGETT 1723 |
£2950 |
A wonderful small silk sampler worked with a central panel containing three short verses, the space at the end of the first filled with numbers 1 to 10, other blank areas have relatives initials. The last bit hard to read but it does in form us that this work was finished in the year of our Lord 1723..The last portion of the central panel has a number of initials either side of two hearts and at the bottom the name ELIZABETH DAGGETT. Interestingly none of the initials have a second letter D; her parents being AO and EF . Her fathers AO in black showing he had died, so Daggett being her step fathers name.
Probably Northern, I would thing Yorkshire,
The border of brightly coloured flowers against a fine trellis pattern of black silk on white is exceptional.
Frame size only 25 x 29 cm.
Provenance. MARGARET CADMAN COLLECTION sold Christies London 20.11.2002
