SARAH MOORE , 1839 RARE POCKET & SAMPLER

£595

  SARAH MOORE , 1839 RARE POCKET & SAMPLER £595
A very rare pocket sampler worked with a wonderful inscription "When this you see remember me John Moore X" pockets like this were given as love tokens for gentlemen to place their watches in so the symbolism of time passing and love is a poignant reminder of the giver, or in this case the sewer his daughter.
This comes with a sampler worked by Sarah Moore Aged 9 and dated 1838. Now there was a number of Sarah Moore's with fathers called John, but it would appear to be Sarah daughter of Nancy & John born 1829 Ashton Upon Mersey a Joiner by trade. In 1851 we have our Sarah working as a dressmaker along with her Mother and younger sister. In 1854 at the age of 25 she married Evan Mellor also a Joiner by trade. They had six children. She died aged 58 in 1887.
