SET OF 4 BRETON GENTLEMAN

£SOLD

SET OF 4 BRETON GENTLEMAN £SOLD
.Rare and interesting set of four carved panels probably representing a local Militia each holding a different weapon.
It is interesting that the Male Cod piece was a popular fashion throughout the 16th Century during the 1540's it became very much enlarged !. All are wearing stockings , and the lack of ornamental lace collars probably date them to the first half of the century
The gun held aloft appears to be a Wheelock pistol again popular throughout the century
