SARAH SMITH 1800, NORWICH NORFOLK SCHOOL |
£sold |
We are always pleased to be able to offer a classic "Norfolk School" sampler.
No other country in England can say they produced a range of needlework samplers that share common threads in design as that of Norfolk in particular around the city of Norwich.
Sarah Smith worked her sampler with the "Norfolk" central band of octagonal medallions with central stags. Her sampler is near identical to that of Sarah Chittleburgh worked some six years later, and illustrated in the excellent book by J.M.Lukacher page 218. Sarah C. came from Lakenham in Norwich and almost certainly attended the same school as our Sarah Smith, but unfortunately there are a number of Sarah Smith's in Norwich that would have been 7 in 1800.
Framed in a period oak frame measuring 27 x 32 cm |
