An interesting sampler, worked by a young girl called Sary Spooner in 1719.
It would appear Sary was buried 22 April 1788 Sompting Sussex.
. Now the sampler follows in many ways that of school work, taught by Judith Hayle and her daughter Rebecca (Thompson), that share a common "signature" on there samplers of a rectangular cartouche containing initials, The cartouche having curly fronds around its edge, similar being found on this sampler. It is thought Rebecca died / stopped teaching in 1711 (the date of the last known sampler of the group). This sampler has after her name three initials HS, ES, & FS presumably family , with further initial pairs within the cartouches MS, HS, IS & ML, as well as the date 1719.
