A classic school sampler worked in a traditional style with bands of alphabets and numbers with a different border pattern between. Signed across the bottom ISABELLA TASSELL, MAIDSTONE KENT March 11.1826.
33 x 33.5 cm. original 1900 frame.
A bit of history about our Isabella, born29th.11.1813 in Maidstone to Elizabeth and Thomas Tassell , one of 7 children. She married well to William Cheesman of Chart Court of Little Chart. A farmer of 700 acres . They had 5 children who were taught by a live in Governess , they also had house maid & cook. By 1871 she had retired as a farmers wife moving to Tunbridge Kent. She died aged 80 in 1894 and was buried at the family plot at Little Chart. Her probate showed she had effects of over £20 k
